De eerste tentoonstelling van 2009 in Nieuwe Vide, ‘Blind chance and possible futures’ is vernoemd naar de film van Krzysztof Kieslowski. De tentoonstelling brengt een ontologische gedachte ter sprake over de verhouding tussen het menselijk lichaam en zijn sociale omgeving. De kunstwerken bijeengebracht voor deze tentoonstelling tonen een verstoorde lichamelijkheid, waarin de fysieke ervaring direct geconfronteerd wordt met de geschiedenis en inzichten van de samenleving. Dora garcia’s installatie Intolerable Luz, Tania Mouraud’s werk I have a dream, Claire Fontaine’s A fire is a fire is not a fire, en Bik van der Pol's installatie The Disappearance Piece beschrijven een scale aan mogelijkheden waarmee de mens omgaat met zijn omgeving; door interactie, strijd en confrontatie, of juist door er aan te ontsnappen. Kunstenaar Eric Martijn zal door het uitsnijden en omkeren van de muren een directe interventie in het gebouw Nieuwe Vide neerzetten, waarmee hij een nieuwe expositieruimte zal creëren. De relatie tussen oud en nieuw, lichaam en macht, geloof en illusie, het individu en de samenleving, en de mens en geschiedenis, wordt via de kunstwerken als een narratief web ter discussie gesteld. De tentoonstelling zal zelf ook de spanning van tijd en ruimte belichamen door de kunstwerken beetje bij beetje te laten verdwijnen, tot in de laatste week alles volledig verwijderd is, alsof er binnen nooit iets heeft plaats gevonden.

In de projectruimte wordt tijdens de tentoonstelling ‘Blind chance and possible futures’ werk vertoond van de in New York woonachtige videokunstenaar William Lamson.
Veel van zijn werken zijn experimenten, als een zoektocht naar de angst voor het falen. Soms is het falen gepersonificeerd, en handelen zijn werken over conflicten tussen mensen en objecten of met hun omgeving. Vaak ook spelen objecten zelf de hoofdrol, in conflict met hun omstandigheden. De onontkoombaarheid van hun lot staat altijd centraal.
Het videowerk ‘Emerge’ wordt een eindeloze reeks van ballonnen naar de oppervlakte gestuwd van een grote watermassa om vervolgens hun weg te vinden in de oneindigheid.

The first exhibition of 2009 in Nieuwe Vide 'Blind chance and possible futures' is named after the movie by Krzysztof Kieslowski. It proposes an ontological thought about the relationship between the human body and its socialized environment. The artworks assembled for this exhibition propose a disturbed physicality, in which physical experience is directly confronted with history or society's insights. Dora Garcia's installation Intolerable Luz, Tania Mouraud's work I have a dream, Claire Fontaine's A fire is a fire is not a fire, and Bik van der Pol's installation The Disappearance Piece describe the many ways in which humans deal with their environment, whether it may be interacting with it, struggling against it or escaping from it. The artist Eric Martijn will make a direct intervention in Nieuwe Vide's building, by cutting out its walls and turning them up side down to build up a new exhibition space. The relationship between old and new, body and power, belief and illusion, the individual and society and human and history are questioned through these artworks that have been compiled as a narrative web. The exhibition itself will embody the tension of time and space, by letting the artworks disappear little by little, until the exhibition has entirely been removed by the last week, as if nothing had taken place inside.
